Yes, I'm the type of person who picks things up off the street. A photo booth strip that I found in the gutter. It must have been one hell of a party.

Los Angeles Indiana 10
I haven't been buying too many photos, just lately. To be honest, it's not a lack of interest so much as a shortage of money. Anyway, I've got to cut back a bit, and collecting old photos has taken a back seat for a while. So, it's back to the Los Angeles Indiana Collection, and you can click on that in labels to bring up the collection to date, including an explanation for the title. A couple of photo booth shots.

Los Angeles Indiana 8
Is it even possible for me to express how much I hate eBay and antique dealers who cut up photo albums for resale? I doubt it. Anyway, I bought this page from the same eBay seller in Indiana as another page that I've referred to as The Los Angeles Indiana Collection in labels, and why I call it that is explained in the very first post in the series. So, click away to find out why and to see the other images in this series. As usual, when I put up an album page, I'll start with the whole page to show position, and then follow up with individual photos. Once again, I'm not sure how I'll lay things out, and I won't be putting them up uninterrupted, so be patient.

Los Angeles Indiana 7
No more waiting for the final post from this photo album page. A few weeks ago, I bought another album page from the same eBay seller in Indiana. I don't know whether it's from the same album or not, but when I do start on it, it'll have the same label, The Los Angeles Indiana Collection, which can be used to bring up all the previous posts from this page.

Los Angeles Indiana 4
This is the flip side of an album page that I've already posted. (Click on The Los Angeles Indiana Collection in labels to bring everything else up.) Every time I put up an album page, whether it's been cut out of an album the way this one has or if it's from a full album, I always like to put up the whole page at least once to show position. More than likely it doesn't really matter, but it's always possible that the person who made the album had a reason other than available space for the choices they made. Perhaps it's the order they were taken or the same location. Unless a photo is labeled there's no way to tell, but just in case. So, just to repeat myself, why Los Angeles Indiana? Well, I purchased this album page from an eBay seller in Indiana and there's a decorative border on a couple of the prints from L.A. Right at the top is the peristyle of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It's true that the photographer could have sent his film out to be processed and he could have sent his film through the mail, but I doubt someone living in Indiana would have mailed film all the way to Los Angeles for processing. So, did this Hoosier family make a trip to the west coast? If they did, they might have gone to the 1932 Olympics. Or perhaps, they were living in L.A. and eventually moved to Indiana. Who knows, and I doubt I ever will.

The Here, There, and Everywhere Collection-The Maid, The Cat, and the Dog
Well, the best thing to do is click on The Here, There, and Everywhere Collection in labels to get an explanation, and see more from the lot. But in a nutshell, the person who sold me this collection said it was all from an estate, but then again, take that with a grain of salt.
So, the first two photos reveal the why of the title. There she is, the maid, in one image she's holding the cat, and in the other, the dog. I guess, the real question is this; Are these the photographic memories of the maid, and her career, working for different families, or did mi'lord and mi'lady just need someone to show off their pets? My next post will be the other side of this album page, and may provide a clue.

Mom's Friends
Well, I'm going to stick with the military stuff, at least through the weekend. This one looks like the World War 2 era.
Written on the back, "Mom & Friends." But, which lady is mom? If the writing on the back was written when the photo was taken, Mom is probably the older woman. If thirty years latter, probably the younger lady. Significantly, the man is neither son, nor father. Personally, I think Mom is the younger of the two women, and she went through a number of boyfriends through the war years. But, did the man in the picture not live up to Mom's standards, or did he not live?

Photo Booth Nostalgia
We're all nostalgic for photo booths, especially those too young to remember them. I was born in 1955, and they were quite common when I was growing up. The thing is, I can't remember ever using one. As a matter of fact, I can't remember them being popular at all.

Three From the Photo Booth
A few months ago, I purchased an envelope of hand colored photos, none of which, as far as I know, are in any way related. Now here's the question. Photo booth pictures came out of the machine in glorious black & white. There was no photo studio or photographer involved. Who did the tint job on these three images? Did someone actually go to a studio and pay good money to have color added? Or did they buy the inks and do it themselves?

Young Louise Koss
This is a very tiny photograph, right around an inch and a half on the long side. It must have required a deft hand from the colorist to work on an image that small.
Written on the back, "Louise Koss" There's a big problem with trying to track down info on young girls. It's almost certain that Louise Koss married at some point in her life, and took her husband's last name. Just for the hell of it, I tried doing a search on Louise and did find more than a few women with that name. But none the right age and with a different, married name.

Post Number 1,000
I started The New Found Photography as a way to impose some sort of order on a mess of a collection. While I've added text from the very first post, I expected few visitors, no comments, no followers, and I sure as hell never expected to hit the 1,000 post milestone. The fifteen photographs that I've chosen to re-post, to mark the occasion, are far from representative. Are they my favorites? They are right now, but if I made a choice tomorrow, there would be changes. They're not the most popular. A couple of them have had a lot of views, and some, almost none. Is there a post number 2,000 in the future? I've still got a lot of photos in the collection that have never seen the light of day. And, despite my ever shrinking income, I still visit antique stores, thrift shops, EBay, garage sales, estate sales, and flea markets. Who knows where it will all end.
