They look like they're having fun to me.

Dark Print, Dark Cat

Well, what can I say.  It was printed way too dark and the woman is holding a cat.

Swedish Portraits 7

The last of the Swedish portrait series.  Click on Swedish CDVs to see the rest.  I saved this one for the end because it was the only one with anything written on it.  It can be hard to read, but "Grandma & Grandpa Erikson."  Grandpa is wearing a medal, but from which war?  Or is the medal military?  It could have been for years of service as a postman.  I guess we'll never know.

Old Folks and a Mandolin

Well, I guess it's true.  Women love musicians.

La Turbie

Another colorized postcard taken from a black & white photograph.  Take a close look and it can be seen that the postcard's publisher didn't bother to add color to the soldiers.  So, La Turbie is a commune in southern France near, the Mediterranean Sea.  The building that dominates the scene is the Church of St. Michael, and that blob in the upper left is the Trophy of Augustus which celebrates the Roman Empire's defeat of the local tribes.  The back has the standard divided back, but no publisher's name.

Sleeping in Natchez

What happened?  I posted these two photos an hour ago and they disappeared.  Anyway, they're both labeled "Natchez."  I did a bit of research and I'm about 99% certain this a picture of the Melrose Estate, now part of The Natchez National Historic Park in Natchez Mississippi.  It was owned by lawyer, planter, and probable slave owner John McMurran.  He lived there from 1830 until the Civil War.  My guess is that these two photos are from the fifties or early sixties and that the two ladies in the top photo are tour guides.  The bed may be period but that does look like an electric table lamp.  The wire is a dead giveaway. I wonder how many slaves were needed to keep the estate running?  Lots, I'd bet.

The Alpine Village Band

Take a look at the third image in the column and you'll see a sign for The Alpine Village.  I didn't expect much, but just for laughs I did a search for Alpine Village and found a German market, next to a swap meet, in Torrance, California.  Anyway, the sign I saw in the current photos I found are similar to the one in these old photos.  So much for my theory that these guys are one of the trad jazz bands that claimed to play old time New Orleans style music.  For most of them, not a very accurate claim, but nevertheless.  Perhaps they are  German oompah band without the Tuba.  But a banjo?

Swedish Portraits 6

Another carte de visite from Sweden.  I can't imagine that all these photos aren't from the same family.  Click on Swedish CDVs to see more.  Only one more from this collection is left, so after a few more posts I'll return and finish things up.
