There are a lot of photos out there of men in uniform. From the clothing, my best guess is that this photo was taken around the late 1920s to early 1930s. Did this young sailor hope for deployment in Hawaii or the Philippines? Plum assignments before the Japanese attacks that brought the United States into World War 2.

Lost Feet
Written on the back, "28th Dec 1947, Doris June, Emily, Vida, Dicy. Our feet got lost somewhere in the camera. Ha." What kind of name is Dicy? It has to be short for something. There's also a processing lab stamp, "JAN 1948 STUDER S. A. TEX." I assume that S.A. stands for San Antonio.

The Little Sisters
Written on the back, "The four little Sisters taken at Elinor & Bills. Thanksgiving Day Nov 24, 1950."

Friends on the Couch
It's getting harder and harder to come up with a good title for these posts. My guess is that this photo is from the 1950s.

Grady & May
Written on the back, "Grady & May with children & Don." No date, but my guess is somewhere in the 50s.

Three Girls and a Guy
Dated "1954." Is the guy having fun, or is he being tortured into submission? My guess he's having fun.

Los Angeles Indiana 14
It's time to finish up this collection., at least that is if I don't find another page from this album. Have I mentioned how much I hate it when antique dealers cut up a photo album and sell pages individually? Well, it needs to be said. I know it's more profitable for a seller to cut up an album, but history, even anonymous family histories means something. So, girls camping and because at least one picture on this page was processed in Lamar, Colorado, I'm assuming that these pictures were taken somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. To see the whole collection, click on The Los Angles Indiana Collection in labels.

Random Japanese Snapshots 3
I recently purchased an envelope full of snapshots from an eBay seller in Japan. They may be random, or they may all be from the same family. I just don't know. Anyway, I'm still figuring out how I'm going to post them and in what order. The only thing I'm sure of is that those photos with writing on the back will be placed in a single posting. I don't speak Japanese, and I can't really use Google Translate, so if someone out there speaks and reads Japanese, a translation would be welcome. Just knowing that I've got it right side up would also be helpful. Click on Random Japanese snapshots collection in labels to see what's been published. More to come.

Random Japanese Snapshots 1
Despite money being tight right now, I recently purchased an envelope of random Japanese snapshots. Well, I don't know that for sure. For all I know they all come from the same family which makes them far less random. Anyway, I have a couple with some writing on the back. They'll be published with a scan of the back that, with any luck, someone can translate for me, or at the very least tell me if they're upside down. Some will be posted in lots of three, but I'm starting with a one-off of this group shot in the snow. I'm thinking class photo considering the institutional-type building in the background. Eventually, when I get around to putting more up, click on Random Japanese Snapshots Collection in labels to bring everything up.

Friends or Family
On the back of the print. "MIRROTONE GUARANTEED PERMANENT AUG 51" Some of the men in this photo look old enough that they may have been in the military during World War 2, and some don't. They all look like they could have fought in Korea, though that was a much smaller mobilization. Whatever else they may have done in their lives, they were alive in the post-war America that had the only real booming economy in the world when everything seemed possible.

Mystery Word
This photo was once pasted into a photo album. There's a bit of a word sticking out from under black construction paper, but when I tried to peel it back I was beginning to damage the print, and I thought the print was more important than a single word. "Vaien"

Los Angeles Indiana 3
The last two pictures from the first side of the two album pages I own from this collection. Despite the Los Angeles-themed borders, I'm leaning toward most of the pictures having been taken in Indiana. Once again, click on The Los Angeles Indiana Collection in labels to bring up the rest.

A Family in the Woods
The guy on the right looks younger than the others, so I'm betting a family portrait rather than dating couples. But what are they standing by? It looks like some sort of excavation.

Bow Tie and Glasses Guy
I just bought a small envelope of group shots. This one is the classic two-thirds of a couple of couples shot with the other girlfriend taking the picture. Is it just me or does the guy wearing the bow tie look ever so slightly demented?

Los Angeles Indiana 2
When I put up an album page, I like to put the entire page up first to show how the photos were laid out. So, click on The Los Angeles Indiana Collection in labels to bring the whole page up. As I noted in that first post, I purchased this lose page from an eBay seller in Indiana, but because of the L.A.-themed decorative borders, I'm guessing all the photos on this page were taken in the Los Angeles area. The two kids look happier in their swimming suits than in their Sunday go-to-meeting suits. Is that a hose on the sidewalk and were their parents cooling them down in a hot L.A. summer?

Los Angeles Indiana 1
Every so often I'll write about how unhappy I am that antique sellers cut up photo albums and sell individual pages or prints which, of course, doesn't stop me from buying them. There are two sides to this album page, both with photos. I'll be breaking things up, though I'm not quite sure how, and it's also possible I may go online and buy a few more pages that are being sold by an eBay seller located in Indiana. And that's why I'm calling this The Los Angeles Indiana Collection and clicking on that in labels will be the best way to see other parts. So why the title? Take a look at the border on the print in the upper left. Apart from L.A., there's also a drawing of the Los Angeles Coliseum. Perhaps it's from 1932 and the Olympics.
