Written on the back, "July 1952 Ruth, Clint & David, Clint's son." A farm family? Perhaps a house right on the edge of the new, post-war subdivision? Was Clint a widower or divorced?

The Trips Album 2
No, I haven't purchased a new scanner. For reasons I don't understand, it just started working again. So, before it goes down again, it's back to The Trips Album. Anyway, go to labels and click on The Trips Collection and you can see what's on the other side of this album page. Still in Hawaii, still wandering around.

Playing at Being Grownup.
Truthfully, after a while, it gets hard to think up yet another title. It looks like this photo was taken in the country, maybe on a farm.

2500
This is my 2500th post. As I've written before, I didn't start The New Found Photography because I was desperate to share my old photo collection with the world but because I couldn't figure out any other way to be able to see it myself without having to root around in dozens of unorganized boxes. So, this is from my very first post from 2009. I picked up some glass negatives at a small antique store in Washington state and hand-printed them myself. It's the dream of every photo collector to find a complete set of photos from an undiscovered talent. Think Vivian Mier. The antique dealer who sold me these negatives had purchased a collection of negs from an estate in Montana and judging by the quality of the few I purchased, perhaps he had run across an important photographer, but sadly decided to break-up the collection and sell them for $5.00 each.

What Is She Wearing?
At first, I thought she was wearing a skirt or dress, but after I scanned the photo and blew it up, it looked like she was wearing some sort of pant. It looks like she's on a farm, so I was wondering if it's some sort of horse-riding clothes.

TLR
Believe it or not, I own the twin lens reflex camera seen in this photo. It's packed away in a box in my closet so I'm not going to dig it out. If memory serves, it takes 620 film which means I could run a roll of 120 through the camera if I ever wanted to see how well it works.

250,000
Sometime in the last 24 hours I went over a quarter million page views. This photo was posted way back in June, 2009. It wasn't the first thing I posted, but it was in the first month of The New Found Photography.

Grandpa's Lady
The weird world of real photo postcards. For those of you who can't read sideways, it says, "Calls herself grandpa's lady." That is the strangest hat I've ever seen on a child. At first I thought she was standing in front of something, but after blowing it up, no, it's just the hat.

200,000
Sometime during the wee hours of this morning, The New Found Photography went over 200,000 unique page views. These three photographs started things off. I found the original glass negatives at an antique store in Washington state. The seller had picked up hundreds of negatives from an estate sale in Montana, and decided to sell them off individually. By the time I found these, the collection had been pretty much picked over. I think it's the dream of every photo collector to find a secret cache of photos from an unknown, yet talented photographer. Sadly, with this lot broken up, and sold off, we'll never know what the complete archive had to offer.
Oh, and I hand printed them back when I was still working in a photo lab.

The Here, There, and Everywhere Collection-The One With Ducks on the Back
Over the years I've expressed my displeasure with antique dealers who cut up photo albums. On this one, the seller artfully cut out the gardener photo, but sliced part of the duck photo off. I like ducks.
Click on The Here There and Everywhere Collection in labels to see other photos and get more information on the collection.

Shadoofs
It didn't take long to figure out that chadoufs is French for shadoofs, which is a phonetic spelling from the Arabic. A shadoof is the mechanism pictured, not the people. Basically it's a wooden stand, a rope, and a bucket that's used to move water from one place to another for irrigation. This card was never sent and was published by "The Cairo Postcard Trust-Cairo."

A Day Late
I suppose this one should have been posted yesterday for the Memorial Day holiday. Oh well, it's only a day late, so why not. The fact is, these patriotic celebrations make me a bit fearful. I've noticed most people aren't fond of my rejection of American exceptionalism and all the military trappings that go with it. I keep expecting that some guy, all decked out in American flags, is going to beat the crap out of me when I question the sense in having the world's largest military, and our growing ease with its use.
Anyway, for what it's worth, I'm not a pacifist. Give me a good reason to support a war and I'll do it. I won't be happy about it, but I will. It's just, that in my life time, there haven't been that many American wars that I thought made a whole lot of sense. Too, I kind of feel that the European powers, in their colonial period, broke the world, and I'm tired of spending American treasure and American blood to solve problems created by the Brits and French. Sykes, Picot anyone?

Birdman, or (The Unexpected Virtue of Poultry)
Yes it is a birdman and he loves his poultry. But does he love eggs or meat? Anyway, this one goes back awhile. I can remember purchasing the glass negative and this contact print at a flea market in Toronto, Ontario. I had an Uncle who lived in the city, and from time to time, I'd get dumped on his front step.
One of these days, I'll have to dig out the neg and make a print of my own.

The Horse Set
This one was printed on 8x10, double weight fiber based paper, and was either shot be a professional or an amateur who was serious about his craft. I suspect these ladies came from a moneyed background. At least enough money to keep horses, and to provide enough leisure time to ride.

The Severe Family
Did this family ever laugh? If they were asked to smile for the camera, they failed. There is a very faded stamp on the back. I can't make out all of it, but I've got "ROLLINS STUDIO" and "SEDALIA." Presumably Sedalia, Missouri. I suspect Mr. Rollins did the processing and printing rather than taking the picture.

Oink
The human tongue can detect four basic taste sensations. Sweet, sour, bitter and salty. Umami, the savory sensation from meats is sometimes included on the list. Among the basic food groups, only bacon appeals to all the basic taste sensations, and that's why people love it so much. Other basic food groups include, peanut butter, Kentucky Fried Chicken, ice cream, peach cobbler, chocolate, and potato chips. And that's why America has the healthiest people in the world!
There's a stamp on the back of the top photo. "BARD'S DRUG STORE IS THE ONLY AGENCY FOR RICKEY'S QUALITY KODAK FINISHING. PRINTS 3 CENTS EACH. FREE ENLARGEMENT WITH EACH ROLL."
