At the Zoo

Written on the back, "Taken at the Continental Divide."  Those of us of a certain age can remember when it was possible to travel the country, going from one roadside zoo to another.  Most of them were pretty much like the one in this photo.  Wooden pens, dirty, and way too small for the animals being exhibited.

Too Many Twins

One, two, three sets of twins.  Perhaps, one set of fraternal twins as well.  Let's hope that twins ran in this family, and there are a few cousins going on here.  I know there are women out there who are still having ten or more children, but the era of really big families seems to be fading.  It's just too expensive to raise large families these days, and most women want lives that go beyond full time, multi-decade child rearing.

The top, "Larry Davidson, Age 18 August 63."  The second, "Violet Ann Davidson, Age 17 August 63."  The final two, "JoDy: Apple Tree Courts Lyon's, Aug 63"  The Davidson twins?  The cowpoke appears to be our old friend Ed Murphy, so Jody has to be the horse.

Aloha, Bon Voyage, And All That Stuff

It's always problematic trying to read personalities form photographs.  This one presents a rather interesting contrast.  Twins, one crying, with her arms crossed in a classic defensive posture, even for a small child, and the other, all confidence, staring into the camera.  Did little miss confidence push the crier around.  Did she dominate, leading her sibling into all sorts of scrapes.  Or maybe, the crying sister is mad because her parents wouldn't let her stand on the ship's rail.  Maybe the crying child is the dominate one, all angry because she wasn't allowed to go and do something fun,but dangerous.

Note that the sisters are wearing leis.  That doesn't mean they are headed to Hawaii, though.  They could be on a day trip to Catalina or even Nantucket.  From the late forties through early fifties would be my guess.
