I swung by a favorite antique store of mine and found a stack of photos of a banquet. Anyway, the store's owner doesn't like taking credit cards on small purchases, and since I only had a few dollars on me, I only bought four photos. I'll be back in the area in a few weeks and will have enough money to buy more of the collection. Since there may be more to come, I've decided to put up the photos one at a time. And if someone beats me to it, well there will be at least three more pictures after this one. So why am I starting with this photo of banquet staff rather than something more telling? This one has a photographer's stamp on the back. "Lauersens Foto, AErogade 7, Aalborg." Alborg is a city in Denmark, so that's how I know the photos are from there. By the way, on the stamp, the A and E are run together, and there is a slash through the "o" in AErogade, but my computer doesn't type in Danish. Click on The Danish Dinner Collection in labels. Eventually there will be more images to see.

The Dinner Party
Do people still do things like this? Do they get dressed up, go to a friend's house and have a sit down dinner. Maybe a family dinner at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

10 After 3
Or so it says on the clock, and since it's analog, not quite, but close enough. It wasn't until I got my first digital watch that I ever thought to be so exact as to give an actual minute as the time. It was always about ten after, or around half past. Anyway, the calendar has a picture of Santa, but I can't make out a year, but I know those plastic, plaid dishes from my childhood, so let's say late fifties to the early sixties.

Old Polaroids
Here's a fun fact, old Polaroid photos have a distinct chemical smell. I'm talking about the ones from the fifties, sixties, and seventies. This one is dated "1965."

Dinner Party
The room looks too big for someone's home, so I'm guessing this was taken at a banquet hall, and this is probably a company party. Management only, of course. From the fifties would be my guess.

Culver City Trash, Family Dinner
Things do change. Just a few weeks ago, I was complaining about how few examples of true found photography, pictures literally found on the street, I have in the collection. And then, I had an early morning work day in Culver City, I was walking to my job, passed a dumpster in front of a thrift shop, filled with stuff that was so worthless it was being tossed, and there they were, old photos. Some were so far down in the bin I wasn't willing to go diving, some were damaged beyond use, and some were covered in slime so vile even I wasn't willing to clean them off, and I have a pretty strong stomach. Anyway, this one is the first of the lot. I'll be putting them up, without interruption, so it's probably not necessary, but they'll all be tagged Culver City Trash Collection in labels.
