There's a lot written on the back of this print. "Taken April 10-1930. Mary 7 years old May 23, 1930." And then a couple of lines, only part of which I can make out. "Nichols on" and then I just can't read it. I suspect it's a location, but who knows.

More Depression on the Beach
The flip side of yesterday's post, dated "August 1930." It looks like the beach trip required a boat ride.

Depression on the Beach
I've made this point before, and with this album page, I'm able to make it again. While the Great Depression was devastating to the lives of many, others survived, and even thrived during the era. It looks like these two kids were never hungry or homeless. My father, born in 1919, was both.
For those who can't make out the writing: Above the kid with the toy airplane, "July 1930." Below the beach photo, "August 1930 3yrs 10 mos."

The Freddie II
Just a timely reminder that our new President Elect has promised to open up the Pacific coast to oil drilling.
Anyway, there's a processors stamp on the back that's very faded. There are a lot of numbers around a date, "MAY 1930," "KODAK DEPT.," something about a drug store, though I can't make out the name of the store, and finally, "BELLINGHAM." I assume that's the one in Washington.
This one really needs to be brought up in a bigger window for best view, so click away.
