But what is she drinking? Coffee, tea, beer, or something stronger? Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong year. The roaring twenties would have been great fun. Of course, the great depression and World War 2 would have been really miserable.

What Happened to the Guy in Glasses?
From four to three people in a single photograph. Well, it looks like the two ladies spent at least some of that day sitting in apple boxes that had been converted to push cars.

Swapping Photographers
There's always someone who doesn't make the shot, and that's the person with the camera. Unless the camera gets passed around.

The Here, There, and Everywhere Collection-Traveling by Train
Navigate back a few posts and you'll find stuff on the Harvey House restaurant and hotel chain. The building in the background looks like it could be a rail station in the style that the Harveys favored. Then again, rather than two women leaning against a rail station platform, they could be two women leaning against a beachfront boardwalk. In any case they're far from the boring house as seen in the last two posts.

Coasting on the Steamer
Almost certainly not on the Dorothy Bradford. Written on the back of the top photo, "Ray & Gladys on board boat going to New Haven, Conn. June 5, 1932." The second photo, "Ray & Gladys on Steamer coming home from New Haven, Conn. June 5, 1932." We don't know what Ray and Gladys were doing on their day trip to New Haven, but they look like they had fun. Even durung the great depression life went on.

Three Ladies, One Guy on a Bench
I think the cloche hats date this to the 1920's. I bought this photo here, in California, but going by the trees and flat landscape I'd bet on the mid-west. During the great depression hundreds of thousands of people made the trek to the west coast. I can't help but wonder if this photo and many of the others I find here came to L.A. via the back of an overloaded car driven by a formally middle class family.

Sitting Near Water
Alright, I'm assuming that the "1.VII.21" in the lower right corner means either January 7, 1921 or the first day of July, 1921. I'm leaning towards Europe and July because of the laefy green tree in the background.

A Concrete House
The idea of a poured, concrete house isn't that far fetched. Thomas Edison tried marketing them, but it didn't work out. Anyway, I may be wrong, but the porch, at least, looks like cement. I love that the kid looks at the camera while the adult looks away. Click on the image to bring it up in a bigger window, and that small white spot on the bottom becomes a dog. Dated "1931"
