Long Barn 2

In a nutshell, I didn't want to put eight photos in the same post, so I'm just finishing up.  I have no idea if this is the Long Barn Lodge that burned down or the one that's still there.

Long Barn 1

Except for 8/56, nothing is written on these prints, though the seller has told me that they are all from Long Barn, California.

Anyway, Long Barn is what's known as a census designated place.  It's not a true town, but then again it's more than a wide spot on the road.  Long Barn started out as a nineteenth century wagon stop near Sonora Pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  By the 1920s, a resort, The Long Barn Lodge, opened for customers.  The original lodge burned down in 2002, and was not rebuilt.  Believe it or not, it wasn't insured.   There was a second lodge that's still in operation.  It has motel rooms, private cabins,  a swimming pool, ice skating rink, a hall for events.  It's a popular wedding venue.  And, of course, Long Barn is surrounded by the Stanislaus National Forest and is only a couple of hours from Yosemite National Park, so there's plenty of hiking.

Views of the World, Big Tree, California

This postcard is driving me crazy.  I'm sure I've seen the original black & white photograph.  But where? Haven't a clue.  I've just spent far too much time searching the net looking for the original and couldn't find a thing.

Anyway, in 1890 Congress passed a law creating Yosemite, Sequoia, and General Grant National Parks.  General Grant National Park?  Yes, in 1890, 10 or so acres of giant sequoia trees were protected as General Grant National Park.  In 1940, the park was folded into the newly established King's Canyon National Park.  Oh for the good old days when Congress was able to actually do things.  Don't know which park this photo is from, but it has to be either Sequoia or General Grant.

This card is part of a collection of cards Iv'e has since high school, and that was far too many years ago.  Click on Views of the World in labels to see what's been posted.

Mountain Climbers

I bought this one because I like hiking in the mountains.  Too bad I'm so broke I can't afford to drive out of the city.  I picked this one up in Pasadena, California, it looks like the Sierra Nevada, so I'm going with that.  They've got rope, but I don't see any other climbing gear, so the rope may be for emergency, show, or some other reason.
