Snow Shoeing
It snowed in the mountains of southern California. If my tires weren't on the bald side, if I had remembered to take the chains out of the trunk of my last car before sending it to the junk yard, I'd spend my weekend snow shoeing. Of course, I'd leave all the gear behind. Let's see, rifle, giant frying pan, bucket, blankets, and who knows what else.

Toys
This kid has a tricycle, a scooter, a toy wagon, toy skis, and, on the third step down, a toy six shooter. When I was growing up, I was told that children who had lots of toys were spoiled and would grow up to be no good. It's been my observation in life that kids who were indulged grew up to be, if nothing else, successful. Love the photographer's shadow.

Mystery History 2
I've guessed some sort of militia rather than an actual military because of the kids. These groups always have a youth auxiliary. The white numbers are easy to explain. Black ink on the negative prints white and is a common practice when prints are made in volume, for sale.

Gun Culture

Typed on the back, "Teddy, and his new gun" I have mixed feelings about America's gun culture. I grew up in a small town with a tradition of hunting. When I was in high school, during small game season, many of my classmates brought rifles to school. And then I moved to a city and met lots of guys who thought that guns made them tough guys. Maybe Teddy was a hunter, maybe he grew up to be another Charlie Starkweather. Dated "MAR 58"
