The Last Two People On Earth

One woman in beachwear and one not.  It's clearly a beach resort like Cony Island or Atlantic City.  So where are all the people?  

On the Boardwalk, The Travelers Collection

Another snapshot from the travelling family collection.  On the Boardwalk, but which one?  My guess is Atlantic City, and I have absolutely no idea why.  Anyway, the white, double-breasted, linen suit isn't something you'd see in our day.  Very stylish.

Atlantic City 1924

It's always nice when things are dated, and all three of these images are dated, "Aug. 16, 1924." In addition, the one with the adult woman and child is labeled, "Mrs. Kravitz and Albert." Little Albert seems to be wearing a dress of some kind. The one with the girls sitting on the sand, "Gus and Jen Atlantic City." And the two girls standing, "Dot and Jen Atlantic City." Dot and Jen have their initials on their swim suits. Click on Atlantic City in the labels section, to bring up another old boardwalk photo.

Atlantic City, 1947

I always love it when things are dated. It not only places the print in context, but it gives a reference for dating other photos. Written on the back, "Julia in Atlantic City, N.J., 1947" Even with out the labeling, the movie marquee in the background would have dated this image. Johnny O'Clock was directed by Robert Rosen, film noir about a gambler, starring Dick Powell, Evelyn Keyes, Lee J. Cobb, and Nina Foch was released in 1947.
