There's a stamp on the back, mostly faded, but I can make out Eichwalde which is a suburb of Berlin in the Brandenburg area. There's also a date, "3-21/71." At least I assume it's a date and the man's haircut looks like it's from the right period. They must have lived near the wall. Of course, I guess everyone in the Berlin area lived near the wall.
All images in The New Found Photography are from my own private collection. I do not reblog or use any photos from any other source. All photos are either original prints or prints made from negatives in my collection. Remember, you can always click on an image to see it in a larger window.

Slumber Party
I do love the color restoration feature. Dated "NOV 69" so it's either early Christmas with all those candy stripes or a slumber party with the sleeping bag and all those feet.

Hey you...
Hey you, look over here. Or where they just angry that the intrusive relative with the camera was taking another photograph?

Beating the Sidewalk With a Stick.
For the life of me I can't think of another explanation. It looks like her family thinks she's crazy.

More Good Communists
More East German actors serving the state with portrayals of western decadence. Dig the greaser beatnik in the background. The stamp on the back, "Reproduktion u. Anderungen verboten. Aenny Jungermann Photoarelier Rudolstadt, Registr. Nr. 8" Rudolstadt is a city in Thuringia, a German state that was onc epart of the East.

Good Communists
There is a stamp on the back, most of which can still be read despite a certain amount of fading. "Wolfgang Swietek Theaterfotograft, 7033 Leipzig 33, Wilhelm Liebknecht Platz 14" And the rest has faded into oblivion though at least some of it is a phone number of some kind.
So, Leipzig was the second largest city in the former East Germany, and Wilhelm Liebknecht was a German revolutionary and one of the founders of the German socialist party so pretty much a hero to East German communists. I'd love to know what play these two actors are appearing in. Something revolutionary I'd bet. Either that or a silly, meaningless comedy. Even communists love a good laugh now and again.

Army Photographers
I suspect they aren't official army photographers. The cameras are a bit low end for official U.S. military use. I have several of them in my collection. And who is the woman sitting with a camera of her own. She's not in uniform and neither is the other woman looking off into the distance.

What's Going On Here?
Sometimes I see a photo and there's something about it that says Europe to me, and this is one of those images. So, without really knowing and not really having any idea what they're doing other than sitting in the forest, I'm guessing a bunch of central European people are too drunk to get home.

The Grapevine
For those who don't live in southern California, this post might not be of much interest. Before the construction of the I-5, this windy, two lane road was how people got from Los Angeles to the San Juaquin Valley. Published by "WESTERN PUBLISHING & NOVELTY CO., LOS ANGELES, CALIF."

Hoover For President
I've been saving this one for election day. The couple in the middle are Herbert and his wife Lou Hoover. It's dated on the back, 1928, the year he won the presidency. Herbert Hoover was a farm boy from Iowa, graduated with an engineering degree from Stanford, went to Australia and worked as a mining engineer. After a year, he made a brief return to the U.S. to marry Lou who was the first woman to get a degree in geology from Stanford. Between them they made a fortune in both Australia and China. They were in China during the Boxer Rebellion. During World War 1, Hoover headed up the food relief program for western Europe, and he did the same thing during the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. What's sad about Hoover was that he was a very accomplished and decent person who didn't know what to do about the great depression. It kind of destroyed a well deserved good reputation.

The Vacation Cabin
Because of the pandemic I haven't been able to get around to the flea markets and antique stores to grow my collection. Anyway, I've had this photo for quite awhile. There's the happy people standing in the foreground with their luggage and that small house among the trees. Are they moving in for a couple of weeks in the woods or are they headed home? Dated "August 1960"

Lady Hobos
Probably not hobos. More than likely the wives or girlfriends of railroad employees. Of course, I grew up next to a railroad and even in the 1960s people weren't as upset about the idea of civilians climbing over parked trains. From the steam era.

The Bakersfield Embassy
I'm not sure why a restaurant in Mazatlan is the embassy for Bakersfield, but there you go. The caption on the back, "In Los Angeles it's La Brea Tar Pits...in Dogpatch it's the Skunk Works. In MAZATLAN, MEXICO it's Carlos Anderson's EL SHRIMP BUCKET (Hotel La Siesta). Nightly entertainment. Mexican-American-Seafood-Patio Bar. Carlos Anderson and Chuy Juarez, Owners." It's still in business. There's also a brief written message, "From Bueno Amigo, Sandy."

The Pianist
Looks like he's wearing a military uniform. When there's a draft, the military must have some really good bands.

Music To My Ears 18
Finally, the end. The last of The Music To My Ears Collection (Click on in labels to see all.) I don't think this one is the oldest, but I wanted to save it for last because, in the background, you can see a head shot seen in an earlier post. It looks like Ann Parker, or Mary Reagan, or Ruby has had a long show business career. Not a star, but as a working entertainer. Something few pwople are able to pull off.

Music To My Ears 17
I suspect this one is a bit older than the last couple of posts, but these aren't dated so it didn't occur to me to do those two last. So, for those of you who wonder why color prints fade and, more than often than not, end up either a red or yellow color, color film, slides, and prints are made up of three dye layers. Yellow, magenta, or red, and cyan, or blue. They fade at different rates. To see more, click on Music To My Ears in labels at the bottom of the post. Only one more to go.

Music To My Ears 16
I have to say, I've become addicted to the color restoration setting on the scanner. Written on the back, "Madonna Inn, Aug-1970." The Madonna Inn is still in business. It's in San Luis Obispo, California and is noted for its theme rooms. Yes, they do have entertainment. I have to wonder, how long can a lounge singer expect to work. Click on Music To My Ears in labels to see more from this collection.

Music To My Ears 15
Is this the same woman who has been seen throughout this collection? I'm not sure she is. The shape of the face looks different, but then again, it's not a great angle. Written on the back, "Ruby's Corn Patch 1970-August-Reno." Click on Music To My Ears in labels and take a guess, same person or not.

Music To My Ears 14
I haven't posted much lately, so there's a pretty good gap on this collection, and if anyone wants to catch up, click on Music To My Ears in labels to see what's already been posted. It looks like our singer has aged a bit and may, perhaps, be retired. Written on the back, "5-11-68, Monsignor & Loud Mouth." I'm sure that's a reference to her singing career. And just for the hell of it, I used the color restoration setting.

The Trumpet Player
This is "John" At least that's what is says on the back of the print. I doesn't look like he's in the marching band. Perhaps the high school orchestra.

Oh Those Eyes!
Oh that loving stare. Is she in love with the accordionist or is she wishing he'd stop so they can all play Monopoly? My guess. Monopoly.

The Service Dance
Written on the back, "How do you like the back of my head. How about that Crowd? Nice heh! All service personel." Looks like the World War 2 era to me. Mostly navy with the army thrown in.

Jam Session
Would these guys even know the term jam session? The guy with the guitar looks like he's in a uniform, while the mandolin player is clearly a civilian. The bus in the far background looks 1930's give or take. A nice outdoor cafe and a couple of drinks so the music sounds better?

Crazy Swedes
There's writing on the back of the print and according to Google Translate it's Swedish and it means "It's gone and done and I'm a little alive." Now that's crazy!

Music To My Ears 13
Unless I missed one, this is the last of the black & white images in this collection, so that seems to me to be a good point to take a break. Written on the back, "Mommy & Daddy Aug-1970-San Luis Bay Club." I looked it up and there is a San Luis Bay Inn, in San Luis, California, and their website lists entertainment. Now, is Mommy, Ann Parker, in her underwear, or is that a really ugly swimsuit? I'm guessing underwear, and I'm guessing that this couple is headed down to the lounge to do a set. Click on Music To My Ears in labels to see more. When I return with the color snapshots, I'll finish things up. Say, in about a month.

Music To My Ears 11
I guess I should have put this one up before the last one. Same couple, same domestic scene, but clearly older. From the fifties I'd guess, but who knows. I think the quality might be a little off. I did an update from Windows 10 and the control panel for my Epson scanner disappeared. Apparently my older, perfectly acceptable scanner is no longer supported. I'm able to make it work, but it looks like between Windows and Epson I'll have to buy a new one and like most housebound people my income is reduced. Anyway, enough of my complaints. Click on Music To My Ears in labels to see more.

Music To My Ears 10
It's time to return to this musical family collection. Ii still don't know the real name versus the stage name of this lady and her husband and partner. Anyway, from now to the end, no more stage shots, no more studio portraits no more pictures of our singer belting out a tune. There is however a daughter. Written on the back, "Xmas 1964." And it's a Polaroid. Click on Music To My Ears in labels at the bottom of the post to see more.

Purse Snatcher
Dated "MAY 1969, a bit out of focus and I think it's San Francisco. At first I thought the guy was smoking, but after putting a magnifying glass on the print I realized that white mark near the man's lower lip was caused by dirt on the neg at the time of printing. The big question is why is the guy riffling through a ladies handbag? I think he might be a purse snatcher.

I hope she wasn't smoking in front of her students. When I was in grade school, many of my teachers reeked of tobacco.

Is This the Niagara River?
I don't really know. I have family in Canada, and when I was a child I often found myself being shipped off to Toronto, and the route we took went through Niagara Falls, both the Canadian and U.S. side of the river. We would usually spend some time along the Niagara River, and there were plenty of concrete slab overlooks, at river's edge, with nothing but a flimsy, steel pipe guard rail keeping little kids from falling into the river. Anyway, there's just something familiar about this photo. If I'm right this picture is from the upper river above the falls.

On the Stage With That Weird Thing In the Background
I can make out the guys Afro when I blow it up, so no, that big thing in the background isn't a hat. I have no idea what it is. Dated "MAY 72."

On the Stage With A Whip
This one's dated "MAY 69." I've been assuming all these photos are from amateur theatrical productions, but that guy on the left looks a lot like Adam West from Batman. I just don't think he'd be in some low rent stage play unless he was really strapped for cash.
